The roadwork impacts the Schuylkill Expressway mostly between Broad Street and Passyunk Avenue, according to the DRPA. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of August. The project includes drainage improvements, concrete repairs to overpasses, milling and paving. The following ramps also are closed to allow for roadwork, beginning Monday:
• Entrance ramp from Broad Street north to I-76 West will be closed until May 30.
• Ramp at Exit 348 from I-76 West to Penrose Avenue will be closed until May 23.
• Entrance ramp from Penrose Avenue north to I-76 East will be closed until May 23.

Folks driving to and from the Jersey Shore and people who commute between South Jersey and South Philadelphia should plan on needing more time to get where they are going this summer.

PHILADELPHIA - The Delaware River Port Authority on Thursday announced a four-month repair project on the Philadelphia side of the Walt Whitman Bridge that will funnel traffic on I-76 to just one lane in each direction.
The Walt Whitman I-76 Corridor Rehabilitation Project will start on Monday and impact a stretch of the highway between Broad Street (Exit 349) and Passyunk Avenue (Exit 347), according to a release from the Port Authority.
The Direct Connection road project, designed to ease congestion at the intersection of I-295, I-76 and Route 42, could now be delayed further by the wall collapse.
It was already one of the longest and most expensive road-building projects in New Jersey, and it just got longer and even more costly.
The Direct Connection project, designed to smooth traffic flows on I-295 at Bellmawr in Camden County, hit a major tie-up in late March with the collapse of a new retaining wall on the northbound side of the highway. That collapse forced one lane to close while repairs are made, and leading the Department of Transportation to warn of “heavy congestion” at an already notorious interchange where the interstate meets I-76 and Route 42.
