Suspect arrested for Glendale hit-and-run that left woman dead

Updated: 5:05 PM MST April 7, 2021 GLENDALE, Ariz. A man was arrested on Wednesday following a hit-and-run accident in Glendale that he allegedly fled from on March 30. The accident happened at the intersection of 99th and Maryland Avenues in Glendale around midnight. Rudy Valdez Herrera, 23, was driving westbound on Maryland Avenue when he collided with a white pick-up truck, police said. The impact caused the truck to roll, killing the driver, police said. The suspect and other occupants allegedly walked away from the car and accident, police said. Valdez Herrera allegedly left his wallet behind and officers responded to his residence on Wednesday, police said.

Glendale police said 23-year-old Rudy Valdez Herrera turned himself in on Wednesday. He was booked into jail on suspicion of failing to remain at the scene of a fatal accident. It was unclear if Valdez Herrera had a lawyer yet. Police investigators said the car Valdez Herrera was driving in the early morning hours of March 30 crashed into a pickup truck with the impact causing the vehicle to roll onto its side and land inside the canal.

Police took into custody a 23-year-old man suspected of fleeing from a crash that killed a Phoenix woman and left her truck in a Glendale canal in March, officials announced Wednesday. Rudy A. Valdez Herrera, of Phoenix, surrendered to police Wednesday and was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of failure to remain at the scene of a fatal crash, according to a Glendale police news release. Impairment was being investigated, and the investigation was ongoing for possible additional charges, police said. Valdez Herrera is accused of driving a dark-colored sedan that was involved in a collision with a white pickup truck shortly before 1 a.m. March 30 at 99th and Maryland avenues. The truck ended up on its side in a nearby canal.
