Lobos get last chance for a feel-good ending

.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... Tuesday’s 1:05 p.m. Southwest Airlines flight 3781 carrying the New Mexico men’s basketball team to Las Vegas, Nevada, was full. The passengers were elbow to elbow, masks on. Most of the players boarded last and tried to squeeze their much taller-than-average legs into the middle row of the crowded commercial flight. They were headed to the 2020-21 Mountain West tournament. The No. 11 seed Lobos (6-15, 2-15 Mountain West) will take on No. 6 Fresno State (11-11, 9-11 MWC) at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Thomas & Mack Center. ...................... UNM has not held a media session to talk about the team’s thoughts on a hopeful last run in departing head coach Paul Weir’s final stretch.

(Courtesy UNM Athletics) Here are a few extra notes, stats, tweets, videos and whatever else I could empty out of the old notebook after Wednesday’s 62-55 Lobos loss at Air Force: High tide, low tide Lobos Even when they’ve shown glimmers of hope this season, they haven’t lasted long. As Paul Weir noted in Wednesday’s postgame presser, it’s been a very difficult season to know for sure what the Lobos are going to be from game to game. “I think that’s been a little bit of our season,” Weir said. “It’s kind of been the one step forward, two steps back, whether it’s a particular individual player that you really feel like is starting to break out, it might be a side of the ball offensively or defensively, it might be a particular phase of the game rebounding, free throw, shooting, 3-p
