I remember a time when I was younger when I had utterly blind faith in our justice system. The truth would
always prevail right? Unfortunately, that s not the case. Evidence isn t always clear, investigations can be rushed, and eye witness testimonies have been found to be unreliable and often times inaccurate. In fact, an eye witness testimony cost one Michigan man 40 years of his life.
Walter Forbes was a college kid in 1982 when he got in between two groups fighting outside of a bar in Jackson. Now, I m not sure of the background but it sounds like there may have been some familiarity between these people, which is 100% an assumption on my part, based on the next series of events.

Walter Forbes, 63, walked out of Kinross Correctional Facility on Nov. 20 after Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas Wilson overturned his arson and murder convictions earlier that month.

Walter Forbes, a black man, was released from prison last month after serving 37 years in prison for a crime that he had never committed.
Forbes, who is 63, was released from jail after a key witness admitted that the testimony that she had given was not true.
The crime happened in 1983 but Forbes was never there.
Forbes, who is from Michigan, was arrested in 1982 after he broke up a fight in a bar.
One of the men that were involved in the brawl in the bar, named Dennis Hall, shot Forbes the day after the incident.

Annice Kennebrew was the only witness to implicate Forbes in the July 1982 fire at an apartment building in Jackson, Michigan. Dennis Hall was killed in the blaze. Kennebrew, who was 19 at the time, testified that she saw Forbes and two other men set the fire.
