Houston city officials unveil dozens of police reform initiatives, something Chief Troy Finner believes will bring more transparency to HPD.
“The mayor has given the marching orders and I totally agree. Thirty days. Within 30 days we re releasing all officer-involved shootings where there is an injury or a death. Period.”
The mayor also announced ban on no-knock warrants for non-violent crimes, along with an online data dashboard, allowing easier access to file complaints against police and major investments in mental health and other police training. Critics call it another dog and pony show.
The new policy on police body cam video is effective immediately. When pressed about previous police shootings, Mayor Sylvester Turner instead criticized the reporter who asked the question.

The National Weather Service expects up to three inches of rain per hour in Southeast Texas this morning, but heavier storms in some sections could dump as much as four to eight inches. That could impact areas prone to flooding.
Thunder and rain started in the metro area around 4 a.m. with some heavy storms hitting the west side.
Morning rains are expected to slowly weaken during the day, but the chance of precipitation will remain at around 50%.
An upper level storm will slowly push through the region Saturday with a 70% chance for more rain. The day may start fairly dry but turn stormier during the afternoon and evening.

City officials like Mayor Sylvester Turner and then police chief Art Acevedo told us COVID was the reason we were seeing a spike in crime. That was then. There s light at the end of the COVID tunnel. But crime rates are soaring. And now the FBI warning that we are be going to see this for a while/
With murders up 40-percent in Houston so far this year, Andy Kahan with Crime Stoppers questions how much higher can it go? I think the FBI is absolutely right; it s something we do have to be cognizant of, he said.
The result? Covid numbers continue to plummet.
You can t help but wonder why we haven t heard anything about it? It s really great news! Unfortunately, the only thing we have heard is Judge Hidalgo trying to explain why Harris County is still on Code Red.
We also can t forget President Biden s reaction when Texas re-opened? Biden s exact quote was the last thing we need is Neanderthal thinking end quote.
Maybe not quite as bad as the bogus campaign promises about unity and bipartisanship , but a dig none the less, and an errant one at that.
Republican strategist Andy Hogue told KTRH, It s like when Hilary Clinton called us deplorables! If you look at the polling, the country is almost evenly divided between having to wear a mask, not wearing a mask. I think it s time we looked at real science.
