WARRINGTON’S top-ranked GP surgery has seen its rating upgraded by inspectors to round off the perfect week. The Jackson Avenue surgery has also been upgraded to ‘good’ by the Care Quality Commission, according to a recently published report. Inspectors were impressed with all five areas of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led during their visit in May, so much so that they felt the progress made warranted a rating upgrade. The practice was previously inspected in May 2019, when the practice was rated ‘requires improvement’ overall. In their report, inspectors said: “The practice provided care in a way that kept patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm.

Bruche Primary School pupils in Winwick battlefield plea

THE passion of primary school pupils for their history project has led to a wider effort to preserve part of Warrington’s heritage for future generations. Children at Bruche Primary School recently took part in a research project surrounding the town’s role in the English Civil War Year six pupils spent their last term at the school learning all about the Battle of Winwick, a major engagement in August 1648 that saw Oliver Cromwell’s army defeat their royalist opponents on land near the village. Such was their enthusiasm about the need to preserve the battlefield site for future generations that they wrote to Warrington North MP Charlotte Nichols to ask for her support.
