UCM Theatre and Dance Announces Spring 2021 Season

University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance will present its Spring 2021 Mainstage season, consisting of “Sucia,” “In the End,” the UCM Theatre and Dance New Play Series, and “Spotlight. The first production of the spring Mainstage season is “Sucia,” written by Nicole Jost and directed by Benjamin Gonzales. In this nationally recognized new play, a motherless Chicana girl, known only as “Sucia,” becomes the backbone of a new family in this fairy tale of magical realism. Despite dire financial straits and the demands of her domestic life, Sucia dares to chase her Ivy League dreams. With a brilliant blend of Spanish and English, this is a Cinderella story for 21st century girls who aren’t afraid to get their hands “dirty.” Bonus: there are talking pigeons.  Performances will be streamed virtually Feb. 19-21.

WMMC Partners with Local Artists to Bring Healing to Patients

Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) partners with local artists to bring beauty and healing to their patients and staff during a time of uncertainty. In 2019, the Warrensburg Art Commission funded a new hanging rail display at WMMC now permanently installed for any artist or art group to use. This display was initially used to display artwork of Warrensburg Middle School students through a Classroom Impact Grant from the Warrensburg Schools Foundation. While the students are no longer displaying their artwork at the hospital, other local artists have the ability to hang their work on a rotating schedule. The current display, a collection of acrylic paintings of local parks, farms and hiking trails, showcases the talent of local artist Kellie Campbell. “I’m hopeful that the exhibit, titled Nature Heals, will bring comfort to patients and hospital staff,” says Campbell. “I’ve taken peaceful memories from hikes, walks, and biking and given them my interpretation on canva

Kansas City Man Dies After Attending Party on Pine Street

Kansas City Man Dies After Attending Party on Pine Street A Kansas City man was shot in the parking lot on the northwest corner of Washington and Pine Street around midnight Sunday January 17. According to the Warrensburg Police Department officers were called to Western Missouri Medical Center to investigate a shooting. At the hospital officers discovered Marcus A. Brown Jr. of Kansas City suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Brown was pronounced dead a short time later. Officers interviewed two men who were with Mr. Brown and found that the three men were at the One Ratchet Battle of the Midwest party at Bodies Bar, 126 West Pine. When the men left the party several males followed them to the parking lot at the northwest corner of Washington and Pine Streets where a fight started between the two groups. Mr. Brown was shot in the altercation and the men he was with transported him to the hospital. The other group involved in the fight and shooting fled the area on foot.
