But after administering 300 doses during a drive-through COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Del Norte County Regional Airport on Saturday, Public Health Officer Dr. Warren Rehwaldt said the Public Health Branch is “tapped out.” “We can’t set up any first-dose clinics until we have a larger vaccine supply to work with,” he told supervisors. “What we have on hand is pretty much committed to supplying second doses, and also second doses for the clinics because right now we’re redistributing to all the primary care offices in the county.”

She pointed Northern California residents to a new scheduling system, MyTurn.ca.gov. “Starting today, people will be able to leave their contact information so they can be notified when it’s their turn,” Nezhura said. “Right now we are piloting the system in Los Angeles and San Diego people can use My Turn to determine eligibility and make an appointment. Our hope is the appointment-setting capability will be statewide by the beginning of February.”

COVID-19 cases fall in Del Norte County

Despite a decrease in COVID-19 cases over the last few weeks, Del Norte County remains in the Purple Tier, the most restrictive tier in California. According to information released by the state of California, cases in Del Norte County peaked Dec. 18, when 44 new cases were reported. That week, the county had an average of 17 new cases each day. On Tuesday, Del Norte County reported five new cases and has an average of five cases a day this week. The county has had two deaths of people linked to COVID, the last Dec. 14. On Tuesday, 92 new tests were reported with a positivity rate of 7.1 percent over the previous two weeks.
