Warren told the story in front of a group of protesters Saturday afternoon. Other protestors spoke, demanding more accountability from the Killeen Police Department. It could have been my dad. It could have been your brother. It could have been your neighbor, Sadale Johnson said. We want the police officer to be arrested first and foremost. All we are asking for is accountability for the police. We are gathered here today with the community to bring change, to bring about accountability, said Bryan King, founder of Brothers Against Community Crimes (BACC). We want peace, but we want accountability. We want to know that we can call on the authorities and know that our people are taken care of. I m not here to say who is right or who is wrong, but more than one person is affected by this. Our community is affected by this.
A wellness check for Patrick Warren Sr., a Black pastor, turned fatal Sunday, Jan. 10, when an officer in Killeen, Texas, shot Warren after his family had called 911 to request assistance from a mental health professional. The family was concerned that 52-year-old Warren, who lives with mental health issues, was having an episode, according to civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing the family.
“They noticed their loved one deteriorating, undergoing some sort of psychosis it appeared,” Merritt said in an exclusive interview with ABC25. “They spoke with medical professionals. They wanted to get him some help.”

During a press conference held on Thursday, January 14, Civil Rights Attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing Warren’s family, said, “there’s no reason that a mental health call like this should result in a fatality.”
Merritt explained that Warren was experiencing a mental crisis over the weekend. Family members called law enforcement and asked that they send a mental health professional for assistance.
