VARANASI: Bharatiya Janata Party president J P Nadda took a jibe at the opposition saying all parties, including Congress, are restricted to dynasty politics, while in sharp contrast, BJP is a family.
“The national parties have become regional parties. All political parties, including Congress, are restricted to just dynasty politics. BJP is the only party which is a family. All those who have got the opportunity to be part of BJP are fortunate,” Nadda said after inaugurating the new Kashi regional unit office at Rohania on the outskirts of Varanasi on Sunday. Nadda also inaugurated Prayagraj city unit office virtually.
Varanasi: The 644th birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas on Saturday saw Union oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav visiting Seer Goverdhanpur to offer prayers to the saint.
The celebrations had been toned down due to Covid protocol, but that did not deter political leaders from making a beeline to the temple at the birthplace of Sant Ravidas, who has a large following among dalits.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the first to reach Ravidas temple with BJP leaders to offer prayers. He also sat at the feet of Shri Guru Ravidas Janmasthal Charitable Trust’s chairman and head of All India Ravidasiya Dharm, Sant Niranjan Das, to seek his blessings.

VARANASI: Former chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav claimed that his party would form the next government in the state after winning the 2022 Assembly elections.
While taking to reporters during his visit to Mirzapur on Friday, he said, “We are going to form the government with absolute majority in 2022, and for the same the workers training camps are being held in every division.”
Raising the issues of rising petroleum prices and agricultural laws, he said that while the middle class is reeling under growing inflation, the new farm laws would prove to be a death warrant for the farmers. “The BJP has forgotten the promises made in its sankalp patra (poll manifesto) during the elections,” he said adding that the UP’s politics has reached a decisive point, and the SP is fully prepared to give it a befitting reply.

VARANASI: Following relocation of the tortoise sanctuary from the opposite bank of the Ganga in Kashi to Prayagraj-Mirzapur, the irrigation department is all set to begin he long overdue dredging to reduce the velocity of flow on ghat side which has been eroding the ghat steps and historical structures.
The irrigation department plans to remove about 12 lakh cubic metre sand but will spare a sand island to host activities like Rann Mahotsava of Kutch, Gujarat.
Talking to TOI on Tuesday, divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal said, “The irrigation department has completed the formality of tender for dredging in the Ganga on the opposite bank of the ghats. The cost of dredging will be met by auctioning about 12 lakh cubic metre of sand.”

LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: The civil aviation sector in Uttar Pradesh got a shot in the arm with the Kushinagar airport becoming the third international airport of the state after the ones in Lucknow and Varanasi. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday granted the licence to Kushinagar airport, 60km from Gorakhpur, to operate international flights.
“Kushinagar Airport gets necessary clearances from DGCA to become third licensed international airport of UP. Will boost tourism in the region and facilitate travel on Buddhist circuit by providing direct aviation connectivity to the city where Lord Buddha attained Mahaparinirvana,” Union aviation minister HS Puri tweeted on Tuesday.
