News by Ryan Dunleavy,New York Post 14th May 2021 10:08 AM American youth football organisation Pop Warner is investigating a video that went viral on social media this week, showing a helmet-to-helmet collision during a practice drill that left one youngster laid out on the turf, according to a report. We are deeply disturbed by this video and are investigating. If, in fact, it was Pop Warner coaches leading these drills, we will take action, Pop Warner spokesperson Brian Heffron told Fox News. What we saw was dangerous and, frankly, offensive to the overwhelming majority of our coaches who teach the sport the right way. We expect every coach to adhere to mandated training and focus on the proper, safe progressions of tackling techniques, including practice against dummies, particularly at such a young age.
I got a phone call about four days ago with an opportunity that presented itself and it was one that I really couldn t pass up. I mean I could pass it up, but why not [do it]. Johnson is expected to compete in what will likely be a four-or-six-round exhibition.
Johnson, 43, talked about the opportunity in a clip he posted on Monday from his podcast,
I AM ATHLETE, with former NFL players Brandon Marshall, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor.
In the video, he says he was called by Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather s manager, and asked if he was interested in the opportunity. Johnson would often train at Mayweather s boxing club during the offseason when he was still playing in the NFL and has kept a strong connection with Mayweather and his camp. Everything that I do in life I m good at except golf, Johnson said on the podcast.
