If 50 years of writing, producing, and playing great music could be summed up in 10 songs, what would be featured on that list? That was one of the tasks for Fab 5 band leader and bass player Frankie Campbell during a recent interview with The Sunday Gleaner.
With 30 albums and over 200 original songs recorded during the last five decades, it was a bit less challenging for Campbell to list the top 10 most successful hits from the multiaward-winning group rather than his personal favourite. And of course, with Fab 5 being the word play maestros, tunes with ambiguous titles such as
Shaving Cream and
RJRGLEANER Communications Group made 107 workers redundant as part of a restructuring exercise completed last Friday which the company said was primarily driven by the negative impact of COVID-19.
The reorganisation exercise was executed over several months, the media group said in an advisory Wednesday to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, adding that there was the need for continued changes as the global media and communications industry continues to be transformed.
Five of the 107 workers impacted by the redundancy exercise were managers, the company said.
Among the companies and brands that are part of the RJRGleaner Communications group are Television Jamaica Limited, TVJ, Ispotmedia, TVJ Sports Network, Jamaica News Network, JNN, Reggae Entertainment Television, RETV, The Gleaner Company (Media) Limited, GCML, The Star, Radio Jamaica 94FM, FAME 95 FM, HITZ 92FM, POWER 106FM, MUSIC 99FM, Multi Media Jamaica Limited, MMJL and Gleaner Online Limited.

Pompeo was on target, acting based on the Global Magnitsky sanctions programme, “corrupt actors and human rights abusers worldwide. These actions target actors across the globe who disregard individuals’ human rights and international standards to prevent and combat corruption”.

Technocrats and clinicians from across the public health system were in a crucial meeting up to Friday afternoon, as they prepare for a surge in COVID-19 cases over the Christmas period.
A media release from the health ministry said the meeting discussed the readiness assessment for hospitals, critical care and testing.
Also on the agenda were an update on border operations, field operations and information communication systems to support reporting and surveillance.
The ministry said it is now at a critical stage in its planning for the surge in COVID-19 cases which is expected to continue through to February.
