(KSLA) - It has been a very difficult week for Shreveport’s Loyola College Prep after learning senior, Aubrey Bailes, was killed in a car accident in west Caddo Parish on Tuesday, Feb. 9. On Thursday, Feb. 11, her friends and teammates from the school’s bowling team honored Aubrey’s memory with an inspirational effort. Just two days after the crash, the team’s coach gave them the option to not play in a match. However, the team said they wanted to play and “win for Aubrey” and that’s exactly what they did.

New Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet hopes to inspire youth to study technology

Miss Northwestern - Lady of the Bracelet JirNeicia Ward JirNeicia Ward made the decision it was now or never. And saying now was the time led to her being named as the 63 rd Miss Northwestern – Lady of the Bracelet at Northwestern State University. Ward, a senior computer information systems major from Bossier City, will represent the university at this summer’s Miss Louisiana Pageant in Monroe. Meghan Woods of Monroe was first runner up, Alana Lewis of Haughton was second runner up and Sarah Shiflett of Covington was third runner up. Woods won the talent competition. Shiflett won the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker Award and Chileigh Mitchell of Lafayette won the Liz Carroll People’s Choice Award and Miss Congeniality Award.

3 Bossier City students win in nationwide cyber security competition

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Three students from Bossier Parish Schools placed among the top five students in a national cyber security competition hosted by Cyber.org. It was a virtual competition held over a three-day span in early January. It tested their knowledge, but also hopefully sparked interest in cyber jobs. Liam Denehan, a junior at Airline High School in Bossier City, came in third place, going up against 1,424 other high school students nationwide. Denehan won a $1,000 technology award for his school.  “It was it was extremely challenging. I mean, some of the questions were like crazy,” said Denehan. “It encourages out of the box thinking like stuff that you wouldn t think of just sitting around, you know, you have to actively use your brain and figure out things. It s like a puzzle,” 

Shreveport/Bossier s Annual Life March Event Will Not Be Taking Place This Year

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions and out of caution to keep everyone safe, Shreveport/Bossier’s annual Life March event will not be taking place this year. Instead, organizers are hosting “Stand For Life, Louisiana” on Saturday, January 23, at 10:30 a.m. in communities across the state. “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will allow participants to peacefully and publicly protest abortion while maintaining social distance and adhering to all state guidelines. Participants will gather along busy thoroughfares in cities across Louisiana and hold signs to share our message with the public. In our area, “Stand For Life, Louisiana” will be held in two locations: Shreveport in front of Broadmoor Baptist Church on Youree Drive, and Bossier on Airline Drive in front of Airline High School.

Bossier Schools names its District Students of the Year From Staff Reports, Shreveport Times The Shreveport Times Replay Video UP NEXT Student body president, editor of her high school newspaper and a participant in the Hicks S.M.A.R.T. (Science and Medicine Academic Research Training) program; captain of the cheerleading team, a district winner in cross country and academic stand-out; and president of 4-H, an FCA leader and member of her school’s archery and robotics teams. Their accomplishments are many and paint a picture of the three 2020-21 Bossier Parish Students of the Year who will represent the district as they advance to the regional competition next month.
