A sharply cooler weekend is coming. Right now, we re ending the week on a high note!
Today, sunny with highs near 60 and gusty. Tonight, near freezing temperatures into Saturday morning. This weekend, sunny skies and very cold from start to finish with highs in the low/mid 40s. Yet, it ll feel more like the mid 30s Saturday afternoon due to the wind chill.
A soggy start to the work week. Expect mostly cloudy skies with widespread rain on Monday. Some snow could mix in Monday morning, but expect mostly (or all) rain overall. Showers will continue for Tuesday especially during the morning.

You see, on Jan. 21 in 1984, we set a record low of -21 degrees (-29 degrees Celsius), which officially stands as the coldest recorded temperature in Detroit weather history.

Let me explain. Our National Weather Service office has the old books that the daily weather statistics were hand-recorded in, and Detroit weather records date back to 1870. At least they used to. Back when the NWS office was located at Metro Airport, they had all of the old record books. But when the office moved to its current office in White Lake, the oldest book 1870-1873, somehow got lost (as a historian, words cannot adequately describe my distress when I heard about this). Inauguration Day is historic for obvious reasons and Wednesday promises to be no different. When Joe Biden gets sworn in, he’ll be doing so with a few snow flurries in the forecast and temperatures near 40 degrees.
