NEW DELHI MAY 18, 2021 Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) Cyclone Tauktae made landfall in Western India on Monday, disrupting power distribution systems for many states including Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. While damage to electrical distribution is widespread, damage to power generating units, which were taken offline, has been limited so far. Only two coal power units totaling 500 megawatts (MWs) have been identified as offline as a direct result of the storm. These units were taken offline as a precaution and are expected to restart quickly once the storm has passed.
