MOULTRIE, Ga. Children played in the spray as the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority opened the new splash pad Saturday at the Southwest Memorial Pool complex.
The fun area was a new addition during renovations of the complex, which took more than a year to complete.
The complex overall opened with a ribbon cutting March 24, but actually using the facilities was delayed while crews finished some last-minute work. The splash pad was supposed to be opened last weekend, but the authority postponed it because the weather forecast called for chilly weather.
The next few days will stay dry allowing for yesterday s rainfall to be absorbed but we re still dealing with a little temperature swing from this weekend.
New Braunfels Utilities is preparing for tighter water restrictions as the temperatures rise and the aquifer level falls.
The utility, which has been in Stage 1 since October, said that rising temps, lack of rainfall and increased water use means the level of the Edwards Aquifer is dropping.
On Friday, the 10-day average for the well that measures the aquifer s level was about five feet above the trigger that would push the city into the second stage of restrictions.
If Mother Nature doesn t change course, officials said those restrictions could go into effect within the next few weeks.
While under any water restrictions, the schedule for the use of a sprinkler or irrigation system is limited to one day a week by addresses, with addresses ending 0 or 1 having Monday, 2 or 3 having Tuesday, 4 or 5 having Wednesday, 6 or 7 having Thursday and 8 or 9 on Friday.

The old saying that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb usually doesn t hold true in Henderson County, but for 2021 it s pretty accurate.
On the first day of the month thundershowers blew through the area, dropping 1.33 inches of rain in Athens. The high temperature of the day was 74 degrees, but a cold front stalled the high at 48 degrees on March 2. That was the last cold afternoon of the month. The low of 33 the following morning was the minimum temperature for the month.
The warmest day of the month was March 16, when the high reached 81 degrees. The averages for the month ranged from a low of 46 to a high of 70.
A letter to the editor Wednesday, âFear socialism, not climate,â provides an excellent opportunity to consider the big picture, from science to politics, and perhaps beyond. Many people fear that climate change is a false pretense for establishing a one-world, socialistic government. But wha… More Headlines
