But some Alabama malls - in Montgomery and Gadsden - are seeing more than just signs of life in 2021.
Montgomery’s Eastdale Mall, which first opened in 1977, now has only two vacancies in its 964,717 square feet. One sign of renewal is its movie theater, which had been closed since 2013. Richard Holman, the mall’s general manager for the past two years, since the theater, now operated by Goodrich Quality Theaters, is mostly done with its renovation.
