John Ridley, Oscar-winning screenwriter of 12 Years a Slave and owner of Milwaukee s Nō Studios, will be writing Marvel s new Black Panther comic book series.
The news was officially announced May 18 by The New York Times, according to a Marvel article. In the New York Times interview, Ridley described the series as a hybrid espionage-superhero thriller with a love story at its core.
Ridley will be working with Marvel artist Juann Cabal on the project, the Marvel article said.
Black Panther’s current series will conclude this month. Ridley s Black Panther (2021) No. 1 is scheduled to be published in August.
This isn t Ridley s first time in the comic book world.

Milwaukee is getting a new rooftop bar and lounge.
Skyline Bar + Lounge will be opening on the top floor of Nō Studios, 1037 W. McKinley Ave., May 8, the creative arts hub announced Tuesday.
Nō Studios is owned by John Ridley, the filmmaker, Mequon native and Oscar-winning screenwriter of 12 Years a Slave. His sister, Lisa Caesar, an investment banker, is the hub s chief operating officer.
Skyline will have a glass-enclosed bar and lounge with unobstructed views of the city and two outdoor rooftop patios, according to a news release.
While there will be a full bar beverage selection, Skyline will feature sake and have a wide range of the Japanese rice wine, including flights and cocktails.
