A fire inside a garbage can caught a home on fire Sunday, May 9, in Wadena.
The fire was reported at 3:13 p.m. on the 1100 block of SE Second Street. Upon arrival Wadena Fire Department units observed a small fire outside the structure that was started from inside a garbage can outside the house, according to a Wadena Fire Department news release. Damage was done to the stucco siding and two doors. Units were on scene for less than one hour.
The fire was ruled unintentional and caused from unknown combustion inside the garbage can. Also assisting the Wadena Fire Department were the Verndale Fire Department, Tri County Health Care EMS, Wadena Police Department, and Wadena Light & Water.
The fire was reported at about 9:42 p.m. April 7 at the home at 406 NW Brown St. in Verndale, Minn. A fundraiser is now in place to help support the family, who lost their belongings in the fire.

Verndale mother, daughter remain in critical condition from fire injuries

A call has gone out for more prayers for a mother and daughter in critical condition after a house fire last week in Verndale.
Liberty Schultz was injured trying to rescue her daughter from a burning upstairs bedroom just after 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 7. The mother suffered inhalation injuries and burns. Liberty s mother, and Alaina s grandmother, Karen Schultz, said Liberty is stable but still has a lot of recovering to do.
The status of those injured is unknown as of Thursday morning.

VERNDALE, Minn. A 1-year-old child suffered unknown injuries, and her mother was injured trying to rescue her in a house fire Wednesday night, April 7.
The fire was reported at about 9:42 p.m. at 406 NW Brown St. in Verndale. At the time of the initial call, the reporting party stated there was still a child inside the home. Wadena County deputies, officers from the Wadena Police Department and a Verndale firefighter responded to the scene and observed flames at an upstairs window, where the child was reported to be, according to a Wadena County Sheriff s Office news release. Several attempts were made to locate the child but heat and smoke made the area inaccessible.
