Enterprise staff | × Jacob Winston Eckman, 21, of rural Menahga, has been sentenced in Becker County District Court for felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to court records, on Nov. 6, the Becker County Sheriff’s Office received a report from Wadena County Human Services that Eckman had had anal intercourse with a child under the age of 6 in a broken-down camper at Eckman’s residence.
In a forensic interview, the child said that Eckman had done it on four different occasions, according to the criminal complaint. In a Dec. 20 phone call from the child’s parents, Eckman admitted to having anal intercourse with the child on two occasions, and said he “always felt really bad about it,” according to the criminal complaint.

Jan. 12
Caller reported a male party recently got out of Todd County Jail and was asking people for money and a ride home at a gas station. Caller asked if an officer could assist the man.
Caller said he watched police pull over a vehicle and the occupants of the vehicle are now pounding on his neighbor s door. The people were first pulled over for no headlights at 9:23 p.m. and cited for no driver s license or proof of insurance.

A quick overview on the county housing study showed renter needs and successes, as Scott Knudson of Community Partners Research noted during the Wadena County Board of Commissioners meeting on Jan. 5.
The housing study highlights Menahga, Sebeka, Staples, Verndale, Wadena and the county’s housing options and needs. Commissioners approved the study in February 2020. Community Partners Research have worked with the county and area cities on small cities grant applications, including after the 2010 tornado in Wadena.

Without the super majority vote needed to pass the change to make the auditor-treasurer and recorder positions appointed instead of elected, commissioners passed the discussion and decision to the next commissioners who begin in January. The commissioners did not vote on the resolution since three commissioners indicated they would vote against adopting the resolution.
Commissioners reviewed a few of their positions from the public hearing on Dec. 7 as well as commissioners Chuck Horsager and Sheldon Monson noted numerous phone calls they received from constituents since the hearing. Commissioners-elect Michael Weyer and Murlyn Kreklau were the only members of the public to attend the public hearing.
