Another great day trip idea is opening up within driving distance of the Crossroads. Maybe some of you remember Waterloo Park from back in the day in Austin? Well, it s back with a big upgrade. The City of Austin and Waterloo Greenway Conservancy have partnered together to revitalize Waterloo Park! According to a press release from Waterloo Greenway, the highly-anticipated Waterloo Park and Moody Amphitheater will open to the public in August 2021.
The brand new 11-acre green space to connect with nature in a downtown setting, socialize with neighbors, explore the 1.5 miles of hike-and-bike trails, and immerse themselves in musical, cultural, and performing arts experiences. The opening marks the completion of the first phase of Waterloo Greenway’s 35-acre connected urban park system, creating a new mobility corridor and a reactivated Waller Creek.

Now, 10 years later and five years over schedule, the 11-acre city park east of the state Capitol is set to reopen. The Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, the nonprofit that operates the park, says it does not have an exact date for the reopening, but it will be sometime this August.
