Barry Alan Butterly

WATERTOWN — Barry Alan Butterly entered the gates of Heaven on May 2, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Marie “Reene” Butterly; their daughter, Dawn Hughes and her husband, Danny, and the apple of Barry’s eye, his granddaughter, Zoe. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, at Barry’s hometown parish, St. John’s Parish in Watertown.  Barry graduated from St. John’s School in 1959. Friends and family are directed to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours. Barry was a Watertown kid all the way. He grew up on Main Street, working for his father at Butterly’s Coffee Shop. He played baseball for the Oakville Red Sox with close friends Bobby Palmer, Alan Gustafson and Tony Faressa as teammates.

Police make second arrest in 2011 Ansonia murder

Ansonia police have made a second arrest in a decade-old murder and expect to make a third arrest as well.  Police said with the help of the United States Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Waterbury Police Department, they took Luis Marquez into custody in Waterbury for the March 16, 2011 homicide of Isaia Hernandez at the Xtra Mart on Wakelee Avenue in Ansonia. In March, Elijah Stanford was arrested for his involvement in the homicide. Police said they have a third arrest warrant in this homicide investigation, the suspect is currently in jail and will be arrested at a later date.

Suspect steals vehicle at Wolcott gas station with 5-year-old inside: police

Wolcott police are looking for suspects after they said a car was taken from a gas station late Sunday night with a child still inside.  Police were called to the Cumberland Farms on Meriden Road around 11:30 p.m. on the report of a stolen vehicle with a 5-year-old child inside.  When they arrived along with officers from the Waterbury Police Department, they learned that an 11-year-old had also been in the vehicle but had jumped out just before the vehicle drove off.
