WATERTOWN â A $5.5 million major expansion that will lead to a one-third increase in production is slated to begin this spring at the Roth Industries Inc. facility in the cityâs industrial park on South Bellew Avenue.
John C, Pezzi, the companyâs vice president of operations, said the 7,000-square-foot addition to its existing manufacturing plant is similar to an earlier addition completed in 2016.
The addition will house a third blow molding machine at the facility and add eight new positions to the existing workforce of 25 employees, he said. The project also includes construction of a 10,000-square-foot storage building.
âItâs a big project for us,â he said.
WATERTOWN â Jacob âJakeâ Johnson learned a lot from his mentor and how he built up his portfolio of real estate properties in and around the city.
Now, Mr. Johnson and his mentor, Brian H. Murray, have teamed up with each other to acquire Kelsey Creek Apartments on the cityâs north side.
They recently bought the 100-unit apartment complex for $5.9 million. Itâs the first joint venture for the two biggest players in the cityâs real estate market.
The deal was finalized on Dec. 21. Cousins Benjamin and Matthew Waldroff, who Mr. Johnson has worked on real estate deals in the past, are also part of the partnership, doing business as Kelsey Creek LLC.
WATERTOWN â A Newell Street apartment building and the building that houses the Flashback Brewing Company soon will be changing hands, thanks to loans from the Watertown Local Development Corp.
The local development corporation, also known as the Watertown Trust, on Thursday approved a $225,000 loan to Jacob S. âJakeâ Johnson and three other local businessmen so they can purchase the Riverview Apartments, 497 Newell St.
In a separate transaction, Vishal Sudera, an owner of a nearby convenience store, is in the process of purchasing the building that houses the Flashback Brewing Company and an adjacent structure on State Street that includes four apartments and two storefronts.
The makeover of the iconic Crystal Restaurantâs exterior on Public Square is nearly finished.
âItâs almost done,â said co-owner Libby Dephtereos, whose husbandâs family has operated the restaurant for decades. âWeâre close. It looks beautiful.â
Earlier this week, a contractor revealed the restaurantâs new black tiling exterior after some plywood was taken down in front of the building, 85-87 Public Square.
For months, the black tiling work was hidden from view while a construction crew worked behind a plywood box to get the tiling placed on the building.
Restoring the restaurantâs historic neon sign is also part of a major facelift.
