This is meant to pave the way for a repository that can handle the disposal of at least a century s worth of such materials for tens of thousands of years, the lab s chief designer told China Daily in an exclusive interview. The lab will be situated in granite up to 560 meters below ground in the Beishan region of Gansu province, said Wang Ju, vice-president of the Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology. The underground lab was listed as one of China s major scientific construction projects in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20).
