National WWI Museum and Memorial honors national heroes Memorial Day weekend May 25, 2021 Photo by David Everett In celebration of Memorial Day weekend, the National WWI Museum and Memorial is hosting a range of events for all ages, including the first-ever hot air balloon glow, to honor veterans and active-duty military members. Events begin Friday and end Monday. Admission is free for veterans and active-duty personnel and half-priced for the general public. MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ACTIVITIES When: All Day; Monday, May 24-Monday, May 31 Where: Walkway Terrace near Main Entrance at the National WWI Museum and Memorial What: The Department of Veterans Affairs reports that every 72 minutes, a service member takes his or her own life. This moving display of 140 U.S. flags calls attention to the fact that 140 veterans are lost to suicide every week. FREE to the public.

Military vehicle convey to make its way into Marinette, Menominee counties

The Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) has a historic military vehicle convoy coming this Aug. 4 to Pensaukee, Oconto, Peshtigo and Marinette. About 120 owners and support drivers will participate with between 50 and 75 trucks. The Convoy is made up of privately-owned historic military vehicles that range in era from WWII up to the Iraq War. It includes WWII Jeeps and Dodges; Korean-era deuce-and-a-halfs, Dodges and Jeeps; Vietnam-era Jeeps, Dodges and deuces and an assortment of “Heavies” from the 1950s until current day. The route of the convoy is north on County Trunk S from Pulaski through Pensaukee and into Oconto for a lunch stop between 1 and 2 p.m.
