Seattle police said the train struck the pedestrians while they were crossing in a crosswalk during a “Don’t Walk” signal.
At 6:20 p.m. police were called to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street.
Firefighters at the scene reported that two people had to be pulled from under a light rail car.

SEATTLE (AP) One person died and another was critically injured Friday evening after they became trapped underneath a Seattle light rail train Friday evening, the Seattle Fire Department said.
At about 6:40 p.m. Friday, two people were being extricated from under the train near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street in the Columbia City neighborhood, fire officials said on Twitter.
Shortly before 7 p.m. fire officials said the people were quickly freed but that one person had died and the other was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

SEATTLE Two people were killed after being struck by a light rail train in Seattle’s Columbia City neighborhood.
The crash was reported near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street on Friday about 6:30 p.m. The pedestrians were crossing during a Don t Walk signal, according to Seattle police.
The Seattle Fire Department extricated both people who were trapped underneath the train.
