Soapbox: It's Time For Nintendo's Sonic Mania Moment

Soapbox: It s Time For Nintendo s Sonic Mania Moment (Image: Nintendo Life) I remember a strange night live blogging the worst Anniversary celebration ever. You know the one, Sonic fans! But it wasn t all bad; we didn t know it at the time, as the widely leaked Switch hadn t even been officially revealed as the NX at that point, but Nintendo fans weren t far away from playing the best Sonic game in decades, Sonic Mania Plus; it s still a go-to game on my Switch. It was also, when you really think about it, a bold thing for SEGA to do. As the IP - in particular its 2D platforming roots - was losing popularity, SEGA effectively admitted it wasn t getting it right and recruited an all-star team of Indie developers that had huge amounts of talent. In their ranks were those who d produced outstanding mobile ports,

Chuck Avery: Placing blame and punishing are paramount

According to news reports, some of our citizens are keeping alive the American custom of brutalizing fellow citizens of non-European ancestry. Currently, the victims are Asian, but we are a fickle lot (I say “we” because I am a white, middle-class Protestant male of European descent), and next we may turn our attention elsewhere. Asians and Africans make good targets because they are easy to spot, but when easy prey becomes scarce, whites have been known to turn on their own. In the past, we’ve attacked Irish, Germans, Catholics Jews, Muslims, etc.  We rationalize our intolerance on a case by case basis.

Diamond Lake Announces Rules for the 2021 Slow Box Derby

Diamond Lake Announces Rules for the 2021 Slow Box Derby Though Brian and Janice Smith recently announced they are in the process of selling Diamond Lake Campground and Resort, they are still hard at work on the 2021 season, which features some new events for campers.  One such event is the 2021 Slow Box Derby, which is an absolutely hilarious take on the classic Soap Box Derby. Yesterday, on Diamond Lake s official Facebook page, the Smith family published the rules for the event.  Take a look! Diamond Lake As you can see, Rule #1 outlaws current, past or future Soap Box Derby cars.  Naturally, those cars are built for aerodynamics and speed.  That s the antithesis of a Slow Box Derby.   LOL.

Soapbox: My Colleagues Bet On How Far I'd Make It Through Final Fantasy VII Remake

Soapbox: My Colleagues Bet on How Far I d Make It Through Final Fantasy VII Remake Share: Note: This feature contains some spoilers for a very old game and a remake of that very old game. Any fans of Final Fantasy might want to stop reading at this point. That s right, the first sentence. Admission time: I never played Cloud Strife s seminal adventure on the original PlayStation, nor any other Final Fantasy title. The closest I got was watching my cousin play Final Fantasy IX; I remember being sort of fascinated by it, but I d be lying if I said I understood what was happening onscreen. Essentially, I have zero affection for the franchise. It s not that I think the games are bad, I just never got into them. However, something changed recently: Final Fantasy VII Remake was made available to PS Plus members.

Soapbox: Why Do You Replay Games?

Soapbox: Why Do You Replay Games? Share: I ve never, ever been one to replay games. The act isn t completely foreign to me three immediate playthroughs of The Last of Us: Part II, I m looking at you but I m almost always looking ahead to what s next after rolling credits. That is unless the Platinum Trophy is somewhat achievable, of course. I generally feel like I m retreading old ground if I return to a game sometime later as most of its story beats come back to me and gameplay feels familiar, to the point where it s a detriment. I get the impression I m wasting my time by replaying an older title when there are many new games released every week on PlayStation platforms, so much so that it sort of confuses me when I hear about someone doing so.
