A new club for Chinese alums of the University of Kentucky as been launched by the Alumni Association, International Center and Office of China Initiatives.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 8, 2021) The University of Kentucky Alumni Association, in partnership with the University of Kentucky International Center and the Office for China Initiatives (OCI), has launched the China UK Alumni Club. The club will engage, connect, serve and celebrate UK alumni and friends living in China.
Huajing Maske, director of the OCI, played a vital role in the formation of the club. “Establishing the China UK Alumni Club and managing China alumni relations have been the top priorities for the OCI,” Maske said. “With the number of Chinese students on campus close to 37% of our international student body, it is high time we create the China UK Alumni Club.”
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 23, 2021) The International Center (UKIC) at the University of Kentucky is seeking nominations for the 2021 UK Global Impact Awards. These awards, launched in Spring 2020, recognize faculty, staff and alumni who have significantly contributed to the university’s global engagement.

Peter Thurnwald s parents were taken by surprise when he ditched his science degree to pursue an acting career.

The 23-year-old is part of a diverse young cast who made their television debut in the hit teen pregnancy drama, Bump. It s an unorthodox career, that no-one in our family is in. So the fact that their kid s an actor is, I think, a bit weird to them, Thurnwald said.
That was the vote from Barrow Council s executive committee meeting yesterday (Thursday). Sue Roberts, the director of resources, addressed the issue head on. She said: “Staff need to understand what we are offering on a permanent basis. “The current working statement needs to be changed. The old statement says we don’t do home working, when clearly we do. “We do support flexible working and home working, so the framework needs to be there, so staff can apply for flexible home working. RISE: news of a council tax rise was met with a range of responses COUNCIL Tax is set to rise in Barrow. Sue Roberts, the director of resources at Barrow Borough Council, said the hike was necessary to help balance the budget. Residents will see a £5 increase a year on a Band D property. Ms Roberts told a meeting of the council s executive committee that 85 per cent of properties in the borough fell below the Band D rate. She said those properties below Band D would see an increase of 6p per week on average. The borough s share of the Council Tax will be close to four million pounds this next year, the meeting was told.
