Eric Staal has become the elder statesman at Sabres camp, although you might not know it. At 36, he is more than a year older than Buffalo s second-oldest player (Carter Hutton) and one of just five 30-somethings on the camp roster. His 1,240 games played are tied for fifth among active players.
Through two days of practices, he has looked anything but over the hill. I feel good, Staal said Saturday. I feel prepared, healthy. My body feels good. My mind feels as young as these guys that are here. It s going to be a fun process.
Rasmus Dahlin led the defense corps in points for the second time in his career. He finished fourth in team scoring with 40 points (4+36) despite missing 10 games, wrapping up his teenage years with historic numbers. With 84 career points (13+71) in 141 contests, he joined Phil Housley (46+86) as the only teenage defensemen in NHL history to record at least 80 points.
He turned 20 on April 13 and Sabres coach Ralph Krueger sees the potential for Dahlin s game to improve in all areas. If I look at the strength and the physicality, you will visibly see that in the first skate on the first of January that Dahlin has really used the time properly - hopefully by far the longest break in his career, Krueger said yesterday. The Buffalo Sabres have revealed their roster for training camp, which opens Dec. 31 with on-ice sessions beginning on Jan. 1.
The roster is comprised of 20 forwards, 12 defensemen and five goaltenders for a total of 37 players.
During the regular season, the NHL roster limit will remain 23 players with a salary cap of $81.5 million. Each team will also carry a taxi squad of four to six players that can practice and travel with the NHL roster. Teams without three active goalies must carry at least one goaltender on the taxi squad.

Darden catches 4 TDs, North Texas beats UTEP 45-43

DENTON, Texas (AP) Jaelon Darden had eight catches for 173 yards and a career-high four touchdowns to help North Texas beat UTEP 45-43 on Friday night.
On Darden’s fourth TD reception, the 2020 Biletnikoff Award semifinalist tied Casey Fitzgerald (2005-08) for the North Texas program record with 229 career receptions as he gave the Mean Green (4-5, 3-4 Conference USA) a 45-28 lead with 9:58 to go in the fourth quarter. He broke Fitzgerald’s record with a minus-2-yard grab with 3:33 to go.
Darden has 19 touchdown receptions four more than any other player in the nation in nine games this season.
