Michael Davis re-sentenced for armed robbery connected to slain NOPD Officer Christopher Russell
Family of slain NOPD officer reacts to release of the convicted suspects By Natasha Robin | April 5, 2021 at 5:25 PM CDT - Updated April 5 at 5:25 PM
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The family of slain NOPD Officer Christopher Russell is very upset. The victim’s mother told FOX 8, she received a call from Angola, not the DA’s office to notify her that a man previously convicted of an armed robbery that ended with his accomplice killing the officer was going to be released from prison.
“What has infuriated the victims is that the victims of this case were not consulted. The mother of the slain officer, the widow of the slain officer were not consulted,” says Rafael Goyeneche.

Jonathan Siekmann, left, a visitor from San Francisco, shows off his new straw hat purchased from Meyer The Hatter’s Alex Underwood.
City College of San Francisco biology professor Jonathan Siekmann was enjoying his visit to New Orleans when he spotted Meyer the Hatter, known to be the South’s largest hat store. Within minutes, Siekmann was sporting a new Panama-style straw to shield him from the Louisiana sun.
“The pandemic has been a struggle. It was the worst business climate I’ve ever seen in my 46 years selling hats,” said Paul Meyer, a fourth generation hatter. “We depend on tourists and, until recently, there just weren’t any.”

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - When police arrested a juvenile on Tuesday, they say they found a stolen black Glock, a rifle and several rounds of bullets.
“Something is definitely wrong if a juvenile can have his hands on those types of weapons,” says Cynthia Podolak.
The 17-year-old is accused of committing 59 crimes across New Orleans.
The teenager is accused of more than 30 burglaries in the 1st district, 5th district and 6th district.
