Eru and the Waka
If you d been standing on a beach in 1940 at the launch of the largest canoe in the world, you would have seen 12-year-old Eru Patuone Heperi. He was the youngest paddler on board and his father was one of the carvers who helped create the significant waka.

Colombo (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, attaching a special significance to the 73rd National Independence Day promoted a total of 337 Officers of the Sri Lanka Army (Regular and Volunteer force) and a record 8,226 Other Ranks of the Army to their respective next ranks on the recommendation of the Ministry of Defence and General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
Accordingly, 14 Brigadiers to the rank of Major General, 23 Colonels to the rank of Brigadier, 35 Lieutenant Colonels to the rank of Colonel, 34 Majors to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 206 Captains to the rank of Major, 22 Lieutenants to the rank of Captain and 3 Second Lieutenants to the rank of Lieutenant (Regular Force & Volunteer Force) have been thus promoted in the Officers category.

In recent years, Japan has strengthened its security ties with Canada, particularly through the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). Both naval forces have strengthened their cooperation through the bilateral joint exercise KAEDEX and by ensuring the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) against North Korea.

The COVID-19 emergency assistance provided by the Canadian military has ended in the community of Shamattawa. At one point there were 370 known cases among the community s on-reserve population of 1,300. That number is now under 30 active cases and declining still.
Timeline of military assistance:
On December 4, 2020, about six Canadian Rangers from the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (4 CRPG) were activated in the Shamattawa First Nation to assist local officials in COVID-19 relief efforts. Canadian Armed Forces assistance complemented and enhanced support drawn from provincial and local resources.
The Rangers provided:
Support to the local community in the production and distribution of real-life-support requirements such as food, firewood and care packages
