Richards Bay Minerals Murder: GM killed in hail of bullets The Richards Bay Minerals manager was shot and killed when gunmen fired more than 20 bullets into his vehicle during rush hour traffic. Richards Bay Minerals general manager Nico Swart was shot and killed in a drive by shooting early on Monday Morning. SAPS regional spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele said Swart was shot while on his way to work in Meerensee in Richards Bay. “It is alleged that at about 6:45 this morning, the deceased was shot while driving in his car on his way to work at the corner of Dune and Kolstert Road by three unknown men who were on foot,” Mbele said.

R6.7 billion project on hold in South Africa because of ‘security’ concerns Bloomberg7 April 2021 Subscribe Rio Tinto group’s new $463 million (R6.7 billion) mining project in South Africa will remain on hold until the security problems that halted work two years ago are resolved. Richards Bay Minerals, the South African unit of Rio Tinto, is in talks with the country’s authorities to permanently address violent protests around its operations before resuming work on the Zulti South project, said Werner Duvenhage, RBM’s managing director. RBM was forced to halt work at the project in 2019 after a spate of community protests that led to one employee being shot and injured.
