Over $35,000 in COVID-19 relief grants announced for Marquette County nonprofits

MARQUETTE, MI The COVID-19 Community Response Fund, a collaboration of the Community Foundation of Marquette County and United Way of Marquette County, recently granted more $35,000 to 23 Marquette County nonprofits. The grants were given as “phase two” of the fund, supporting operational expenses for local nonprofits. The COVID-19 Community Response Fund volunteer committee met weekly and biweekly since March 2020 to establish the fund, review applications and quickly disperse grants as part of phase one. More than $88,000 in grants were given in the first phase, supporting basic needs such as food for children and seniors and protective equipment for front-line workers and volunteers.

Lions start workout fundraiser for U P kids with cancer | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 27, 2021 Courtesy photo Snowshoeing is just one of the ways Yoopers can participate in the âI Trekked the U.P.â fundraiser for children with cancer. ESCANABA As part of the Childhood Cancer Initiative, the Upper Peninsula Lions Clubs are inviting everyone interested to join them tracking mileage for their fundraiser, “I Trekked the U.P.” This effort challenges participants to achieve their personal best through walking, running, snowshoeing, skiing, or biking, and donating pledges or a one-time donation to benefit kids with cancer and their families. Participating in this virtual event is easy. At uplionsserve.org, anyone can register and select their donation amount. Each donor of $25 or more receives a Childhood Cancer mask and bandanna. Donors can also download a Trek and Track sheet that allows them to log activities, times, or distances, as well as donations.
