City Walk a 24-hour shelter While I am proud to say our church houses the homeless on cold nights, City Walk houses them 24 hours a day. Consequently, some residents have complained about loitering, littering, excessive noise, public safety and other issues. On March 8, City Walk’s application to the Development Review Committee was denied. City staff feels the character of the neighborhood has been compromised. Despite the scorn of some, I choose to believe we are a compassionate community. Many of us realize that were it not for the grace of God, we could be homeless, too. While the neighborhood’s issues are valid, Pastor Renee and her staff have worked tirelessly to rectify them, realizing the difficulty that comes with serving such a demographic.

City Walk Permit Application Denied

Tallahassee’s Development Review Committee on Monday voted against granting the homeless shelter the necessary permits to continue housing people. “Staff did our own independent research of contacts to businesses, said Keith Burnsed, a land use development manager at the city. While we acknowledge that this particular use has issues regardless of location, we did find that it would constitute a private nuisance to the adjacent properties as well as the surrounding areas. Burnsed added that staff looked at Tallahassee Police Department data to determine it was causing a private nuisance.

(File photo by Matt Hennie) Two dining and drinking staples in LGBTQ Atlanta will close in June and make way for bulldozers, construction cranes and residential towers on Juniper Street in Midtown.  The Metrotainment-owned property that houses Joe’s on Juniper and Einstein’s is under contract. Developer Middle Street Partners will unveil plans for a mixed-use project at the site on Tuesday during a Midtown Development Review Committee meeting.  “Metrotainment Cafes Restaurant Group has signed a contract for the sale of the Einstein’s and Joe’s on Juniper real estate in Midtown. At present, the intent is to continue serving our guests until early June,” Tori Allen, a Metrotainment spokesperson, said in an email statement.
