Online initiative seeks to ‘upskill’ 4,000 senior HS grads

The Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and Citi Foundation’s “First Future Project” was unveiled on Tuesday, Feb. 2, a new learning platform that aims to reach as many as 4,000 Filipino youth and to train them in the cultivation of leadership skills and the adoption of a growth mindset.
The project is a continuation of earlier efforts to support senior high school graduates and youth without college degrees to enter and progress in the workplace. Back in 2019, PBEd engaged private sector partners to open over 800 work immersion slots and 20,000 employment slots for young Filipinos, in the hopes of opening up the workplace for senior high school students and graduates.

Staff across the seven RYA Regions and three Home Countries are working together to host a free Virtual Instructor Training Day on 13 March, with the aim of ensuring that Instructors are fully up-to-speed and prepared for a new season as soon as restrictions allow.
The packed agenda includes eight inspirational workshops from exciting national presenters, addressing a variety of disciplines and current hot topics, as well as crucial updates from RDOs and RYA Training.

Kelly Harding, assistant superintendent with Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD), described in an email the excitement over the recent return from an extended winter break. “The division has heard from many parents their appreciation for the province s decision to return to in-school learning, noting that their children are happier and more excited about their learning when they are with their teachers and their peers at school,” Harding said in an email.
