A list of potential names for the renaming of Colonization Road has been selected by a committee of Fort Frances town council.
Members of the Planning and Development Executive Committee narrowed the list for the West Road to Sunrise, Heritage, Spirit and Moonlight Trail.
Agamiing (meaning at the shore, at the lake, at the water), Nibi (water), Harmony, Shoreline and Sunset Drive were identified as potential names for Colonization Road East.
Over 70 names were put forward by the public to consider.
Councillor Doug Judson says at least one section of the road should have an Indigenous name.

Tonight will be the last meeting of the month for the Fort Frances council. The next council meeting will be held on May 10.
Colonization Road
The agenda will begin with the public meeting on the renaming of Colonization Road East and West after the 30-day consultation period has ended.
Council has previously requested that when a name is proposed, rationale and supporting information be submitted with the name.
During this meeting, comments and input on proposed names will be summarized and presented to the Planning and Development Committee to narrow the selection down to five names. The five names, along with additional input, will then go back to council for a final decision.

On Monday the Planning and Development Executive Committee unanimously voted for the recommendation to rename Colonization Road West and Colonization Road East.
Prior to voting, the committee were presented with a tally of the feedback from members of the community.
Cody Vangel, chief building official and municipal planner, said they have close to 45 responses since administration was authorized to go forward with the consultation process.
According to the report submitted by Vangel, out of the submitted responses there were only a select few that stated outright objections to the name change.
Coun. Douglas Judson brought this issue before council last year and has been vocal about why it is high time that the name gets changed.
