A main road through Newtown will be closed for five days next week while work is carried out to install underground low voltage cables. The road closure on the A4811 New Road will be in place from 9am to 4pm from Monday, May 10, to Friday, May 14. Powys County Council said that the work, which will be carried out by utilities company Network Plus, will also include replacing four wooden poles. The official diversion is more than three miles, taking drivers from the Lidl traffic lights, up to the Newtown bypass and along to the Kerry roundabout before joining Kerry Road to return to the town at the McDonalds traffic lights.

SITE: The Network Plus site off Chaddock Lane, Astley AN extra 30 posts could be created if plans for the expansion of a training centre in Astley go ahead. Bosses at Network Plus have applied to Wigan Council to make changes to their former Balfour Beatty training centre site off Chaddock Lane. Under their proposals new single storey buildings would be constructed to the south west and north west elevations of the building. The scheme would also see a three-storey modular building retained and cladded. However several other modular additions would be removed. Part of the works would also see the car park remodelled to accommodate the extra workforce.

The north of England cities of Sheffield and Bradford are celebrating major milestones in their respective digital transformations, according to CityFibre, as work has begun on the gigabit infrastructure platform to extend further its fast-growing full-fibre network to reach almost every home and business in the localities.
In June 2020, CityFibre announced a three-year recruitment and training programme to provide up to 10,000 people with jobs to ensure the delivery of its £4bn Gigabit City investment programme that plans to upgrade digital infrastructure to make it fit for purpose in the modern age.
