Media freedom remains a mirage  - Zimbabwe Situation

Media freedom remains a mirage  A VIBRANT and critical media is the hallmark of any democratic society. To achieve its fundamental watchdog role of holding those in power accountable, providing reliable information to the public and facilitating debate among citizens on issues of public importance, including democratic processes, the State must uphold and guarantee freedom of expression and access to information which enable journalists to do their work. Strengthening ties for affordable connectivity worldwide

ITU More than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us take for granted the ability to maintain a semblance of normality through online exchanges and virtual communities. Digital technologies – rooted fundamentally in connectivity through the Internet – sustain life, health, education, and economies. Until they obtain affordable, accessible Internet connections, those estimated 3.7 billion people are at risk of being left farther and farther behind. Connecting the unconnected The Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), both firmly committed to connecting the unconnected, have stepped up their partnership to close the digital gap in the wake of COVID-19.
