The YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce is calling on the community to support its YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
The Y says the campaign helps to ensure kids and families who have a financial need are able to access YMCA programs and services in the community.
This Spring, the goal is to raise $25,000 for the Campaign.
A release says, “The YMCA believes that every child deserves a strong, healthy start, regardless of their circumstances. A family’s health should not be determined by the size of their bank account.”
The Strong Kids campaign helps children and families access programs which increase physical activity, provide good nutrition and safe places to connect, play and learn, regardless of their ability to pay.

âWhat is a Resource that makes you feel strong or safe?â
âWhat do you feel when that happens?â
âIs there something different you can do right now?â
I focused on learning the Arabic translation of these phrases (and others like them) for the Middle East Council of Churchâs (MECC) âStrong Kids / Strong Emotionsâ trauma resiliency program during much of my Winter 2020 COVID lockdown.
We use these phrases a lot.
That might seem like odd conversation to be having with elementary-age kids, but these are the conversations that help them learn the skills to become emotionally resilient during tough times.

The Sault Ste. Marie YMCAâs next 50/50 draw is Feb. 15, with proceeds going to the Yâs Strong Kids Campaign.
The campaign allows children and families the opportunity to participate in programs and services they âneed to live healthier, happier lives, and to promote a sense of belonging and help them reach their full potential,â the Y says.

One of the lasting legacies of 2020 might be the strength and the resilience our children continue to show and develop. (Brynn Anderson/Associated Press)
