Response: With support from World Vision Canada, World Vision Afghanistan through Fragile Context Programming Approach (FCPA) project has constructed two latrine blocks, four handwashing staƟons and two solar-powered water supply networks in peri-urban areas of Herat. To ensure accessibility of students to potable water, the quality of the water was tested to confirm that the water is free of any germs and chemical materials. The projects also include hygiene promotion in schools and communities encouraging children and their parents on personal and environmental hygiene as well as preserving the WASH facilities inside their communities.
But the dire conclusions within the study aren’t what make it so intriguing.
It’s how the group arrived at them.
The Future of the Colorado River project, an effort based out of Utah State University, has produced six white papers to evaluate new approaches to water management along the river.
And, most notably, it is using the Colorado River Simulation System (CRSS), the same modeling tool the Bureau of Reclamation uses to develop its long-term water availability forecasts for the basin.
Arizona also is using this model to help evaluate various scenarios as it and other basin states begin renegotiating how the river will be managed for the next 20 years.

While Arizona’s summers have always been hot, August 2020 was the hottest month ever recorded in Phoenix, and the city’s temperatures topped 110 degrees for more than 50 days in 2020.
“[T]here are times when they close the airports and ask people not to go out. We have offices downtown, and I’ve crossed the street when the black tar moves beneath you since it’s 119–20 degrees. You cannot ignore this anymore. I was not a big climate change believer but now you’ve got to say, wait a minute, you really cannot ignore this,” Espinoza said.
