A trio of Worcester businessmen that have sought to create more parking opportunities in the city s Canal District have bought three more small parcels of land.
An entity registered to businessmen Allen Fletcher, Dino Lorusso and Edward Murphy paid $1.75 million to buy three sites that each contain buildings today and are not planned to be knocked down for parking, according to Fletcher. The deal, which closed March 18, comes weeks before Polar Park opens for Worcester Red Sox baseball games and as the neighborhood is eyed for further potential development.
The properties they bought are 30 Millbury St., a former Advance Auto Parts; 7 Lamartine St., home to Golden Tandoori Bakery; and 13 Lamartine St., a PPG Paints store. The sites total just over 1 acre and were sold by an entity registered to Jon Stockel of Armonk, N.Y. The Lamartine Street sites are adjacent to one another and contiguous with another site the trio owns.

After success at Worcester Public Market, Taqueria Del Pueblo to open second location in city on Highland Street

Taqueria Del Pueblo, a popular vendor inside the Worcester Market Market, is expanding to a second location.
The Mexican restaurant will be opening at 57 Highland St. The new space will be larger than its area in the Worcester Public Market and include sit-down dining.
While the Taqueria Del Pueblo will remain in the Canal District, the restaurant said it will be updating its menu to coincide with the opening of its new location.
The restaurant featuring Mexican cuisine was an original vendor at the public market when it opened in March of 2020. It immediately became one of the most popular eateries in the market’s the food court. It even expanded its hours of operation for takeout while the market was closed.

Julia Moriconi’s first taste of Worcester came during one of its darkest hours.
As a firefighter in Chicago, Moriconi traveled nearly 1,000 miles east in December of 1999 after six Worcester firefighters lost their lives in the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. blaze.
Photos from the event show Moriconi standing on the stage as part of the honor guard in the ceremony at the then-Worcester Centrum that honored the six fallen heroes. Moriconi, who was 32 years old at the time, stood next to Firefighter Paul Brotherton’s photo as former President Bill Clinton addressed the crowd.

About a century ago, the city of Worcester published annual guide books detailing information about the community.
Flipping through one of the books recently, it reminded City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. of Worcester’s inflated population nearly 100 years ago.
“It had a chart of the population,” Augustus said. “I was looking at the early part of the 20th century, we had a number of years where the city’s population was 196,000, it was higher then. We were over 200,000 in different periods.”
