Mass General Brigham Westboro site would provide affordable local care

Mass General Brigham said its planned expansion into the MetroWest area is part of a strategy to bring more affordable care “closer to home,” estimating costs at the new ambulatory facilities will be up to 25% cheaper than at its hospitals in Boston.  “This is part of an integrated care effort of Mass General Brigham, and a part of a larger strategy - a big part of it - is how do we bring care closer to home. It’s what patients want, and frankly, should have been done a long time ago,” John Fernandez, the executive overseeing the health care system’s proposed expansion into Westboro, Westwood and Woburn, said in an interview last week. “One of our overall goals, is how do we continue to help in the state but keep our cost of care down.”

He led this organization through some challenging times and prepared it for future growth,” said Worcester Chamber President and CEO Tim Murray. Kennedy’s support didn’t stop when he retired from the chamber, Murray said. He continued to stay active in the community in a variety of ways.

Murray While undoubtedly there are new levels of private investment taking place in Worcester that create jobs, expand the tax base, and generate economic activity, there has been one negative issue that has continued to fester: the amount of trash and litter along city streets, and in neighborhoods and environmentally sensitive areas. Here at the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, we have observed this problem and have regularly heard complaints about it from chamber member businesses and chamber board members alike. Recently, former Worcester Mayor Raymond Mariano, who now writes a weekly column in the Telegram and Gazette, wrote about litter throughout the city, as did Worcester Magazine columnist Janice Harvey. Both correctly stated that a more collective effort was needed to address this challenge.

(Elise Amendola/AP) After years of anticipation, the professional baseball season is finally underway in Worcester. But the Opening Day crowd was limited because of the pandemic. The Worcester Red Sox  nicknamed the WooSox christened their new stadium Tuesday after the city lured the team from Pawtucket, R.I. with millions of dollars in aid building a new stadium. However, the state is currently only allowing only sports teams to fill 25% of seats. Tuesday s game drew 2,377 fans to Polar Park, the maximum permitted under restrictions designed to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
