Meijer Gardens Announces Tentative 2021 Concerts Past favorites and a unique new combination of artists have been provisionally scheduled for three separate Summer series of concerts at Meijer Gardens. Outdoor gatherings are not yet a sure thing in 2021, but Meijer Gardens is anticipating we will be able to get together and enjoy some music in the outdoors under the stars. West Michigan s favorite summertime venue has just released a very eclectic lineup of concerts. There will be three different musical series, spotlighting the symphony, local artists and national acts from classic rock to classical hip-hop. We are pleased to announce plans for the safe return of live music this summer with three unique series – Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens, Tuesday Evening Music Club and the Jim & Marie Preston Sunday Strings, featuring musicians from the Grand Rapids Symphony and West Michigan. Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park plans 3 concert series this summer Westaby, Robb and last updated 2021-04-29 16:15:45-04 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is planning for the return of live music this summer with three series featuring musicians from the Grand Rapids Symphony and West Michigan. They include “Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens,” “Tuesday Evening Music Club” and the “Jim & Marie Preston Sunday Strings,” according to a news release Thursday. All dates, performers and information are subject to change based on COVID-19 restrictions. “We are very excited to bring the Grand Rapids Symphony back to Meijer Gardens for these special concerts,” said Mary Tuuk Kuras, president and CEO of the Grand Rapids Symphony. “Our shared mission of promoting the arts and bringing our community together makes this partnership a wonderful fit.”

The groups were announced Thursday, April 29 by Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, with the caveat that all shows are subject to change because of coronavirus restrictions.

“All we wanted to do was play,” Katies bassist-vocalist Gary Welch tells the  Scene, looking back on the initial late-1990s run of the alt-rock trio, Nashvillians via Murfreesboro and Knoxville. “Whether it was with My Friend Steve or Fuel, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Ted Nugent, we’d play.”  “We did this show with The Verve Pipe in Jacksonville,” recalls singer-guitarist Jason Moore. “They were on the way down. We were kinda trying to find the way up. Me and [singer] Brian Vander Ark drank a bottle of Jack ahead of the set. I was hammered by the time we went on. The microphones kept shocking us. I was furious.”
