One meeting per month discussed in Shullsburg

One meeting per month discussed in Shullsburg SHULLSBURG – Mayor Emmet Reilly conducted the City of Shullsburg meeting via phone on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. The council discussed reducing city council meetings from two meetings per month to one meeting per month. Alder Verne Jackson said, “I’ve looked into this. Several city councils around us only meet once a month including Cuba City, Lancaster, Benton and Mineral Point. I think it’s a way to simplify things and give Marsha Einsweiler (clerk) more time to work on other stuff. A lot of times we have things on the agenda that we can wait to have at our next meeting. Other communities are doing it and it works for them. There will be bumps at first.”

Jackson focuses on virus | News, Sports, Jobs

manich@leaderherald.com JOHNSTOWN Johnstown Mayor Vern Jackson’s 2021 “State of the City” address Tuesday night focused almost entirely on the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the city. It was Jackson’s last such speech delivered at the Common Council’s organizational meeting at City Hall because he is not seeking re-election this year. The “State of the City “ speech began by noting that his 2020 address exhibited a “very optimistic attitude,” as to how last year would progress. That was before COVID and the city had no property tax increase and was experiencing a downtown revitalization. “Without much notice, a ton of bricks fell on the country when COVID-19 took control,” Jackson stated. “This was a brand new experience causing the country as a whole to shut down completely and develop a new strategy. Not an easy task.”
