There’s this throwaway line in the movie
Spider‐Man: Homecoming that has stuck with me for the last few years and seems quite relevant in our current (and depressing) political moment. In the scene, Spider‐Man arrives at the Staten Island Ferry to break up an alien‐weapons deal between some random bad guy and Vulture, played by Michael Keaton (one of the Best Marvel Villains, by the way, other than Tony Stark, of course). Comic Book Fighting inevitably ensues, and Spidey steals Keaton’s alien gun (just go with it) and it begins to malfunction, at which point Vulture yells:

All eyes were on Washington, D.C. last week, as news emerged Wednesday that the United States (US) Capitol was breached. Order was restored quickly and Congress moved ahead with certifying the 3 November election results. In the wake of the incident, US President Donald Trump is under pressure to resign, with just over a week remaining in his term.
COVID-19 cases continue to increase on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, with varying levels of restrictions imposed to prevent healthcare systems from being overwhelmed. Distributing approved vaccines and inoculating citizens is proving to be a challenge in the United States and in Europe.

Writing post-election, the Mish Talk blog asked: “How Will Biden Differ from Trump on Trade and China Policy?”
“Trade was not a key subject in the debates,” Mish noted. “So what do we expect of Biden?”
Mish went on to examine a host of international trade issues – including Free Trade Deals, Trade Promotion Authority, Domestic Reshoring, China, Bilateral Trade Relationships and WTO Reform.
He also took a shot at U.S. sugar policy…
“The irony in all of this is that next to France, the US is the most protectionist country on agricultural policy. Look no further than the sugar lobby… It makes no sense to drive US candy manufacturers out of the US over sky high sugar prices.”
Priorities for Commerce Secretary Nominee Raimondo: Tariffs, TPA, Trade Agreements
President-Elect Biden will nominate Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo to be the next Commerce Secretary. She will soon be in a position to undo much of the damage the Trump administration’s trade policies have done to America’s economy and foreign policy interests.
She should work with Congress and President-Elect Biden to repeal all of the Trump tariffs, and to repeal Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act and Sections 201 and 301 of the 1974 Trade Act. No future president should be able to abuse executive power the way Trump has, especially as the country goes through a difficult recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
