COMMERCE CITY, Colo. â A pedestrian on Highway 85 died after he or she was struck by a vehicle early Monday, which led to an hours-long highway closure as authorities investigated the crash.
At 3:15 a.m. Monday, officers with the Commerce City Police Department responded to the 11900 block of northbound Highway 85 after receiving reports of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian.
Police said the driver struck the person in the roadway, and the person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver stayed at the crash site and talked with responding officers. Police say they do not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. Police in Commerce City are warning people not to fall for a telephone scam involving someone impersonating a city police sergeant and asking for money.
After several reports about the telephone scam came into the Commerce City Police Department (CCPD) they put out the warning to residents on Tuesday.
According to CCPD, the caller tells people there is a warrant out for their arrest and then requests for the person to send money. Police said it s a scam, the caller is not a police officer.
Citing Colorado’s police accountability law enacted in the wake of nationwide racial justice protests last summer, a judge rejected an attempt from the Commerce City Police Department to hear a use-of-force claim at the federal level.
Given the newfound ability of people to hold officers accountable in state courts for violations of rights, “the Court finds Defendant’s attempt to construe them as federal claims bizarre and inapt,” U.S. District Judge Raymond P. Moore wrote in a two-page Nov. 4 order.
Vincent Damon Ditirro filed a civil complaint in August against the Commerce City department, two Colorado State Patrol officers and other agencies in Adams County. He alleged the officers, while performing a roadside sobriety check in August 2018, beat and attacked Ditirro and caused him mental and physical damage.
