Industry welcomes grants programme boost for Australia’s business events sector
The Business Events Council of Australia (BECA), 11 February, welcomed the new minister for trade, tourism and investment Dan Tehan’s confirmation of the Government s commitment to the event industry and, in particular, the rolling out of its Business Events Grants Programme. “We encourage all business events businesses, whether owners, delegates or exhibitors to engage with the programme to ensure we can get the maximum revenue flowing through the entire supply chain as soon as possible,” the BECA statement read.
BECA was responding to a government media release that noted one of Australia’s premier convention destinations, Gold Coast, was now open for business and that the Morrison Government was supporting local events through the A$50m (US$38.6m) programme.

The Marina Industry Association, which represents marinas and other boating facilities in Australia, New Zealand, South Asia and the Middle East, announced that it postponed its Marinas21 Conference and Trade Exhibition due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “We believe that it is in the best interests of the association and exhibitors … to defer to a time when we believe there will be greater certainty and confidence around attendance and travel,” organizing committee chair Mike Harvey said in a statement. Next year’s conference is scheduled for May 23-24.

Women and youth were seen championing eco-farming and gardening in a recent tourism and travel trade fair held in Quezon City.
The women and youth organizers, farmers and gardeners of the International Marian Association of DAR and Urban Green Communes organized the 2021 Resilient Eco-Farm Tourism Travel and Trade Exhibit from January 29-30 at the Robinsons Nova Mall.
The 2-day theme exhibit opened spaces for discoveries on how to forward together and level-up the playing field, while keeping in mind balance in land use to maximize limited resources and community-driven profits (SDG 8).
