Montacute
Montacute House is an Elizabethan Renaissance gem, and makes a stunning backdrop to the graceful gardens around it. Here, fine lawns are surrounded by neatly-trimmed yews, while a sunken lawn is backed by pavilions and walls with balustrades and pinnacles. Also, Montacute s tree-lined West Drive can be seen in Sense and Sensibility (1995), which was partially filmed here (find some more of Somerset s famous film locations here). Visitors can have a meal or snack at the courtyard café, or pick up a gift in the shop.

Moxon Architects has inserted a new shop extension into the complex of converted buildings in Bruton which already consists of a contemporary art centre, hotel, restaurant and bar
The project was commissioned by Artfarm, the separate hospitality and development company owned by Manuela and Iwan Wirth of Hauser & Wirth. Moxon worked closely on the concept with Luis Laplace, the architect for the wider site, which includes Hauser & Wirth Somerset, Roth Bar & Grill and Durslade Farmhouse.

The design draws on local vernacular forms and traditional agricultural buildings. The new volume is a simple extrusion, pulled away from the adjacent building, with a small linking element between that serves as the main entrance to the shop.
