Ford has completely re-designed their F-150 for 2021, and added a hybrid powertrain for the first time. While Ram has added a new TRX off-road model to compete with the Ford Raptor.
On the other end of the spectrum, Nissan will be pulling the Titan, NV, and NV200 from the Canadian marketplace after the 2021 model year, leaving the Frontier, which is set to reveal a completely redesigned model in the near future.
Chevrolet is adding new trailering technology and capacity to its trucks for 2021, while Mercedes-Benz is doing incremental updates to its vans, and Toyota is adding new packages to its pick-ups. Honda Ridgeline unibody pick-up truck is also still available.

While the TRX is a new model, the carried-over Ram 1500 gains a few new features, including an available head-up display – the first in any Fiat-Chrysler vehicle – a digital rearview camera mirror, and Trailer Reverse Steering Control that’s similar to Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assist, but that you don’t need to prep the trailer with guidance stickers. On the Ram Heavy Duty, the Cummins 6.7L high-output diesel is now up to 1,075 lb-ft of torque, because Ford’s got 1,050 lb-ft and they can’t match-measure that other thing; and a top gooseneck towing capacity of 37,100 lbs.
It s the only one to receive a Top Safety Pick rating.
Despite being the most popular vehicle segment in America, full-size trucks have a poor reputation for safety ratings. In fact, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety just introduced more stringent guidelines that will make it even tougher for trucks to earn a good crash score. In a statement released this week, the IIHS said that only a single full-size pickup truck model earned its Top Safety Pick Award for 2020.
The 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab pickup earned the coveted award when equipped with specific headlights and optional front crash prevention. Formerly a Top Safety Pick + recipient in 2020, the 2021 Ram missed out on the top honor because it didn t earn good or acceptable headlights ratings on all trims. Only three out of the four available headlight packages earn marginal scores, which is part of the new criteria for 2020.
Equipped with Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking and adaptive LED projector headlamps, Ram is first pickup to earn Top Safety Pick rating under new, more stringent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) testing.
