A Graiguecullen fuel retailer who owes more than a €1 million in unpaid taxes is among two people with addresses in the Laois Carlow border town to appear on the latest tax defaulter list from the Revenue Commissioners.
O Reilly Graiguecullen Oil Lmited owes €1,112,276.08 in unpaid taxes and penalties. The Revenue Audit Case found that the company under-declared corporation tax, PAYE/PRSI/USC and VAT. The total tax due was €611,072.47 while the interest on the amount unpaid was €256,774.62. Penalties for not paying amounted to €244,428.99. None of the total owed has been paid back by the end of 2020.
Huge cut in tax revenue as BRA under ‘pressure’ to collect

Facing a huge slump in tax revenue from the coronavirus pandemic, Government’s chief tax collector has told business accountants that “pressure” is building on the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) to make up the shortfall by collecting unpaid taxes.
Revenue Commissioner Louisa Lewis-Ward on Thursday put companies on notice that she won’t be afraid to enforce penalties on those who continue to fail to file their tax returns.
But even as she promised to step up the pace of paying out overdue tax refunds, Lewis-Ward declared that “on the flip side of refunds, always is the collection side”, as she spoke at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados annual tax forum.
NAMA Shrugs Again

NAMA Chief Executive, Brendan McDonagh, appearing before the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee (PAC), failed to deliver a credible explanation as to how the agency handled the disposal of a lucrative portfolio of loans which was sold at a significant loss.
The Committee was convened to discuss the investigation by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), Seamus McCarthy, into the dis- posal in 2012 by NAMA of Project Nantes, which was part of the larger Avestus portfolio. Avestus included valuable properties in Europe and the US which in turn were part of the loans of former Revenue Commissioner, Derek Quinlan and the Quinlan Partnership.
K’taka Cong stages walksout over BJP govt’s reply on Shivamogga blast

Bengaluru, Feb 1 : Outrightly rejecting the demand by opposition Congress, the Karnataka government on Monday declared that the probe into the blast in Shivamogga district that killed six people would be conducted by the revenue commissioner.
Taking umbrage over this decision, senior Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah staged a walkout, alleging that the state government’s adamant stand on the probe is a clear indication that they are trying to protect the “high and mighty”.
“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government’s adamant stand is a reflection of their actions. Your words on illegal mining and actions do not match. There is suspicion in your commitment, therefore, we (Congress) are staging a walkout in protest,” Siddaramaiah said.
